A Pride Letter From Eran

In the heart of London’s vibrant Soho neighbourhood, my journey as a chef began as a wide-eyed culinary arts student at the prestigious Cordon Bleu Chef’s School 15 years ago. Back then, the thought of one day owning a restaurant, especially in the heart of the LGBTQ+ community, felt surreal. Little did I know that this dream would not only come true but exceed all expectations.

As a gay man myself, Soho held a special place in my heart. Its inclusivity and celebration of diversity made my dream of owning a restaurant here even greater. Through years of hard work and dedication, I proudly opened my first restaurant, and this year, I was overwhelmed with emotion and self-fulfillment as I launched my second restaurant in this cherished neighbourhood.

A moment that will forever be etched in my memory was celebrating London Pride 2023 at my Kapara restaurant in James Court. Thousands of people, from all corners of the world and representing diverse genders and beautiful characters, gathered in the courtyard to revel in the festivities. We danced, we ate stunning brunch food, and we relished delicious street food while enjoying captivating performances throughout the day.

Seeing old friends and vital supporters who had stood by me during the years of hard work was a humbling experience. The unity and sense of belonging were palpable, reminding us of the power of community. We basked in an electrifying atmosphere of love and acceptance, where everyone was free to be their authentic selves.

This incredible celebration reinforces the importance of embracing who we are and being unapologetically proud of ourselves. The memories of this joyous day serve as a reminder that our journey may be filled with challenges, but with perseverance and unwavering authenticity, dreams can be achieved beyond our wildest imagination.

As I reflect on this milestone and the love shared that day, I am reminded that we must continue marching proudly, advocating for acceptance, and creating spaces that celebrate diversity. Let us stand united, championing individuality, and building a world where everyone can flourish without fear. Soho, with its vibrant spirit, has shown me the power of community, and I invite you to join us on this exhilarating journey, where the heart and the palate are nourished, and the soul finds solace in acceptance.

Let us march on, for we are stronger together.
